Seasonal Park Rangers

*Revised* – 4 full-time seasonal positions with tentative start dates of Mid-April – Park rangers provide park visitors with general and interpretive information on Portland city parks and services in addition to leading or assisting in recreational programs and promoting compliance to rules and regulation. Duties include: Promoting compliance of rules and regulations; monitoring, collecting fees, and managing parking for the city boat ramp; overseeing use of beach areas and public restrooms; providing emergency assistance and directing emergency services; assisting in directing traffic, crowd control, and protecting park resources during special events; maintains daily logs and reports park incidents and conditions; provides visitors with interpretive information on city parks and leads/assists in recreational programs; and other duties as assigned. 1 position will be focused on assisting the Portland Youth Corps April-August in addition to other park ranger duties. Requirements: Applicant must be a team player and maintain a positive working relationship with other employees and the general public; must possess good communication, write legibly, follow simple oral and written instructions and appropriate use of portable radio; ability to work independently in various climate conditions, walking or biking 10 miles or more daily, and must be able to lift up to 50 pounds; able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays and commit to working the entire season. Experience Desired: Prior experience handling cash transactions, First Aid and CPR certified, and experience in educational programming. Must possess a valid state of Maine Class C driver’s license and maintain a good driving record. A Department of Motor Vehicle check will be conducted on all selected candidates. Seasonal Groundskeepers-Ballfields

May through November, full-time schedule (40 hours/week) to include mornings, afternoons, weekends and nights starting in early spring. Responsibilities include mowing, trimming, lining fields and general ballfield maintenance, as well as, opening/closing facilities, turning on/off light systems, and setting up fields for events. Athletic experience preferred but not required. Responsibility, maturity, dedication and the ability to work in varied weather conditions are a must. Applicants for Groundskeeper positions can be 16 or 17 years old but with certain work restrictions. Applicants at least 18 years old or older must possess a valid Maine Class C driver’s license.
